To people ranting and raving, remember that 'the Internet' is not just one thing but a huge collection of groups and individuals. It's easy to forget that the way some of the darker elements of the Internet try and set the agenda online. In this case I think the art is more reflective of populist trends than individual expression or unique opinions. Some groups may see her as "lolol a hot gurl in teh politic positionz" but I think some of the obsession is down to the fact that a woman in a nice uniform wielding power is still seem as some sort of taboo or a secret cause for excitement.
Either that or I've just wasted my time trying to discuss this. :3

it represents that politics are moving in the right direction when it comes to gender roles. the military once seen as a purely male role, now has a non-fictitious role model. and the fact that it is associated with the military of a country once perceived in pop-culture to be run solely by "old men with moustaches" makes her all the more fascinating to a massive collection of people and ideas like the internet.
